https://www.canva.com/design/DAGSgD82phw/xpHNc0jc6FTDcoE1BDtiXQ/edit

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x829R2Qztu0&t=339s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7U61C8gvjg

    The history of our school

The history of Stroumpeio

2nd Primary  School and 15th Kindergarten of Patras

15th Kindergarten of Patras Greece.

Stroumpeio owes its name to the Epirotian benefactor Georgios Stroumbo.

He was a member of an old aristocratic family from Koukouli, Epirus.

The patriarch was Constantis Stroumbos who had 2 children, Stefanos and Georgios. They were a wealthy merchant family with shops in Ioannina.

They settled in 1830 in Patras and distinguished themselves as merchants and bankers.

George Stroumbos bequeathed a sum of money to complete the unfinished Girls' School he had founded and which was located on Maizonos Street in Patras (in the place where our School is today).

It had started to be built in 1859 on a plot of 1200 square meters. cubits (675 meters) with a building of 800 square meters (450 square meters) that the Stroumbou family had donated to house the Achaian Girls' School, i.e. a school for girls, as until then it was housed in buildings rented by the Municipality. The Achaiko Girls' School was renamed to Stroumpeio. In the garden of the building there was also the then chapel of Agia Ekaterini. According to tradition, the chapel took its name from the wife of G. Stroumbo.

The City Council accepted the offer at its February 13, 1886 meeting

Patras at the end of the 19th century is a rich and beautiful cosmopolitan city, which now has many public and private girls' schools competing with each other, each vying for its female students not only from the upper but even from the middle social classes.

Of the public schools, Stroumpeio has the best reputation. In 1896, as many girls attended the classes as in all the other schools of the city combined. It should be noted that at the end of 1900 (December 6, 1900) it began to operate in the halls of Stroumpeio and the School of Religious Studies.

Many of the students who graduated from Stroumpeio had and have an active role in the political, cultural and economic life of our country. It is worth noting that the former President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Konos Stephanopoulos was a student of Stroumpeio.

The original building was abandoned until 1972, when the State rebuilt a new classroom, which has continued to operate since then as the 12/seat 2nd Primary School of the Municipality of Patreon. It is worth noting that the Church dedicated to Saint Catherine, who is also the patroness of the school, moved from the forecourt of the first old building, is located and functions in the event hall.

Libraries Day in Granada

During the current school year all the Festivals and Feast revolve around the theme of Peter Pan. So, we have made a Pirate Ship that welcomes you upon entering our school.

To celebrate Libraries Day each class has a Treasure Map where they have to draw the route to find their best treasure: Their favourite book.

The legend said:

" Cursed Treasure

When it began a long time ago, in Neverland, Captain Hook and his minions found some treasure maps that led them to the most valuable treasures in the world : The books.

Follow these maps and discover what treasure the boys and girls at school tell us about."

  October

- October 28th - National anniversary of No

October 28th - Greece

15th Kindergarten of Patras Greece.

When we say October 28, we definitely remember the big "NO"!

But what does this date mean for Greece?

Let's find out together!

Every year, on October 28, all of Greece celebrates.

This day is special because in 1940, Greece said "NO" to the Italians.

The Italians wanted to cross our border without asking us.

The prime minister at the time was a dictator, Metaxas, he said this big "NO" on behalf of all the people.

On October 28, 1940, everyone in Greece woke up to the sound of sirens. It was the signal that the war had begun.

Shortly after 3 am on October 28, 1940, the then Italian Government sent an ultimatum to Greece, through the Italian Ambassador in Athens, who delivered it to the dictator Ioannis Metaxas, who ruled the country.

The performance took place at the house where the dictator lived, in Kifissia-Athens-Greece.

Fascist Italy demanded the free passage of the Italian army from the Greek-Albanian border in order to then occupy some strategic points of the Kingdom of Greece (ports, airports, etc.), for its supply needs and other facilities, in its subsequent promotion to Africa.

After reading the text, the dictator Metaxas turned his gaze to the Italian Ambassador and answered him in French (the official diplomatic language) the historic phrase:

"Alors, c'est la guerre" (Well, this means war), thus manifesting the answer of all Greeks.

The next day the newspapers wrote about Metaxas' "NO".

Greece's "NO" to the Italians was a sign of courage.

We had the courage to protect our country. On that day, Greece entered World War II.

Every year, we honor this day because we remember the big "NO" and our love for Greece. It is a day of celebration and holiday in Greece and Cyprus.

Kindergarten and elementary school children learn about the history of October 28 and what it means to our country. It is a way of knowing our past and appreciating our freedom.

This year in our Kindergarten for the Celebration of October 28, 1940 we did the following actions:

1. On Thursday 24-10-2024 the students of one department presented to the other the celebration they prepared with the kindergarten teachers for the anniversary of October 28.

We painted, dressed up, played and made corresponding constructions.

Our Halloween party this year had fun, dancing, lots of games and treats!!!

We made ghosts out of rolls and gauze, decorated our classroom with pumpkins and painted spiders, bats and witches' hats.

  November - St Martin's Day

St Martin's Day in Malta

St Martin's Day is celebrated on the 11th November. It is said that St. Martin was a soldier who always loved to help poor people on the road by giving them his food. One day he saw a man without clothes in the cold and he took his cloak and cut it in two and gave half of it to the man. Later he dreamt of Jesus who was that poor man without clothes.

In Malta it is tradition to give kids a bag full of nuts and fruit in remembrance of this saint. This traditions goes back many years when people in Malta had little food so this bag would be a luxury and the children awaited it. They used to spend hours playing with the nuts before eating them and they lasted a long time.

Ms Bryndis and Ms Romina showed the story in Maltese to the children.

1

Here is the link to the video in Maltese:

Ms Bryndis also made picture puppets to re-tell the story to the children and allow them to role-play using them.

2

Afterwards she gave the students a "ħubbejża" (literal translation - "little bread") which is the Maltese traditional sweet for St Martin's day. It is a sweet bun with candied peel and a liqourish candy in the middle.

3

Ms Romina made cut outs of the things we usually find in the traditional St. Martin's bag - fruit, like orange, tangerine, dried figs, apples and different nuts, like walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts...

Both teachers also enjoyed singing a traditional chant in Maltese saying:

Ġewż, lewż, qastan, tin - Kemm inħobbu lil San Martin!

translated as:

Walnuts, almonds, chestnuts, dried figs - How I love St. Martin!

Here is a video of the students singing it for us:

Let's see how we celebrated Saint Martin's Day in Romania!

The preparation for this feast in the Bee group started a week before November 11. In these days that precede the great event, the children listened to the legend of St. Martin and learned about the good deeds that St. Martin did. The legend was presented to them with the help of images from shadow theater. During the week, the preschoolers had the opportunity to learn songs and recitatives about geese.

Let's listen to them:

https://youtube.com/shorts/5gtq4AopMDo?feature=share

They also painted geese using different painting techniques and made geese using different craft techniques.

Sf. Martin photos

With great emotions they prepared the lanterns with which on November 11 they participated in the traditional  lantern walk organized in the largest park in the center of Cluj-Napoca.

Let's see some moments from the lantern walk:

At the end of the traditional lantern walk, all participants were served according to tradition with bread with lard and hot tea. And at the end of the event, they could participate in folk games with the theme of St. Martin.

  November - Riot of Polytechnic-University

Greece

Primary School of Pedino

In 15th of November we celebrated the Riot of Polytechnic University. In 17th of November 1973 the students of Polytechnic University conquested the building not allowing to the police to enter. In Greece there was dictatorship and the this conquest was a result of the people's dissapointment for the government and its laws. People outside the building helped and supported the students. Their slogan was BREAD, EDUCATION, FREEDOM. The dictator George Papadopoulos order the army to stop the conquest by any means. A tank stood outside the door of the Polytechneio. Around 3 o clock and after several warnings, the tank entered the university killing everyone who was on the door. Among the dead were boys and girls under 18. This was the most tragic day of Greece in the modern times and we continue to celebrate this day as a memorial for those who fought for freedom.

In our school we watched a puppet show called Tenekedoupoli, from a famous Greek author in childrens literature. We made our puppets from the show that we watched and in the end we made bullhorns with the slogans from the Riot of the Polytechneio.

15th KINDERGARTEN PATRAS GREECE

November 17 has become a symbol of resistance and freedom in Greece, and events are held every year.

In kindergartens, the Polytechnic Day is taught in a careful way, taking into account the age of the children and the sensitivity of the topic.

In this context, teachers adapt activities and games to explain the symbolism of this anniversary to young children.

The activities are adapted to the educational program of the kindergarten, with an emphasis on promoting themes such as peace, understanding, solidarity and the importance of respecting rights and freedom.

The tribute to the Polytechnic University celebration began with a fairy tale by Konstantina Armeniakou to explain to the children the value of Democracy and to remember that: ALL TOGETHER, ALL TOGETHER WE ARE ALWAYS STRONGER! Everyone loves Mrs. Democracy in the small village, which is why they chose her as their leader. But what will happen when Mrs. Ria the Dictatorship takes all the power by force? Can people live happily without Democracy?

15th Kindergarten of Patras Greece.

We continued with the fairy tale of Eugenia Fakinou, where the huge oil can, Ladenios, oppresses the small cans and imposes his presence and his regime, this is exactly what happens in reality, from antiquity to the present day the oppression of the big by the small has been the social reality of the relationship between citizens and social power throughout time.

15th Kindergarten of Patras Greece.

The children made their beloved hero into a puppet theater doll so they could act out the story themselves and watched the teachers perform at the Denekedoupolis puppet theater.

15th Kindergarten Patras Greece

15th Kindergarten of Patras Greece.

We made our own posters with the slogan :

BREAD       EDUCATION        FREEDOM

15th Kindergarten of Patras Greece.

We painted the tank in front of the Polytechnic University gate and the students on the railings

15th Kindergarten of Patras Greece.

We Painted A favorite song of all children. It is suitable for very beautiful activities at school.

It has been connected to the celebration of the anniversary of the Polytechnic University.

Lyrics:

The children paint on the wall

two hearts and a sun in the middle.

I take light from the sun and make love

and you tell me that you like it.

The children sing in the streets

and their voice changes the world.

 The darkness disperses

and the day blooms like a flower on the windowsill.

My heart is a cloud

and my life is a celebration in a square.

I love you

and the vast world is like a small city.

  November - Romania National Day

Romania - National Day

In Romanian historiography, the Great Union (Romanian: Marea Unire) or Great Union of 1918 (Marea Unire din 1918) was the series of political unifications the Kingdom of Romania had with several of the Romanian historical regions, starting with Bessarabia on 27 March 1918, continuing with Bukovina on 28 November 1918 and finalizing with Transylvania (on its broad meaning) on 1 December 1918 with the declaration of the union of this region with Romania during an assembly at the city of Alba Iulia.

For this day  we listen folk songs that talks about the beauty of our country and the end we played with three colored baloons: Blue, Yellow and Red - the coulors from our flag.

  December

- St Nicholas

St. Nicholas is celebrated by Romania

Grădinița cu Program Prelungit ”Mămăruța”, Veres Iuliana

We celebrate Saint Nicholas on December 6. This is a nice, family holiday when children can find gifts in their shoes or boots in the morning. But of course we also celebrate it in the kindergarten. Before his arrival, we got to know his favorite reindeer, played various St. Nicholas -themed games, and painted St. Nicholas.

St. Nicholas

Saint Nicholas, who is a symbol of goodness and helpfulness, is traditionally a red-robed, white-bearded figure, and in many places children recite poems or sing to him to deserve the gifts, as we did. His arrival at the kindergarten caused great joy, everyone was very curious to see what he would get from Saint Nicholas's big sack.

In Malta it is a tradition of growing vetch, a little plant which when grown in the dark grows long and white and looks like angel's hair. We put this next to baby Jesus in our homes and churches.

4

Here is how Ms Romina's children did it. They put cotton wool at the bottom of the plastic cups and put some seeds called ġulbiena in Maltese, then watered it and put it in a dark place to grow.

4

It is also tradition to make cribs in our homes. In class we do a simple crib too. Here is how Ms Romina's children did their crib.

4

Ms Romina's class also did a christmas tree craft where they practiced scissoring and sticking papers.

For the game we will need a handkerchief.
The children sit in a circle with their hands clasped behind their backs and do not look at what is happening behind them.
One of the children stands up and plays the mother, holding the handkerchief and walks around behind the backs of the other children singing the song.
Salt, thick salt, tall,

 I lost my mother

and I'm going to find her,

she didn't take my shoes to go to the dance

and if she doesn't take them from me,

 the cuckoo will take her.
He leaves the handkerchief behind a child and the person who has the handkerchief gets up and chases the mother.
The goal is for the mother to be able to sit in the place of the player who has gotten up without catching him.

"Pair behind, run forward!"

An odd number of players is chosen. Players form two columns, each player holding hands with their partner. One player, who has no partner, stands with his back to the others and shouts:

"Pair behind, run forward!"

At this signal, the last two players at the end of each column release their grip and each begins to run forward on his side. They often make a wider arc to avoid the player with their back turned trying to catch them. Runners aim to reconnect by holding hands again. If they succeed, they can line up in front of the columns. However, if the chaser catches one of them before holding hands, both the chasing and the caught player move to the front of the line, and the unpartnered player becomes the new next.

 February - Carnival

15th KINDERGARTEN OF PATRAS GREECE

The crazy Carnival started with a party.

We made and ate shrimp and fondant skewers and for dessert bananas with chocolate.

The band of the Municipality of Patras visited us, we ate, drank, played and danced to carnival rhythms.

We went out to the parade at the Carnival of the little children

and we did carnival constructions and projects at our school.

We celebrated Carnival with crafts, an excursion to a local horse park and with lots of dancing and signing. We made masks out of cupboard boxes and we painted them and we made also clowns using paper for hair.

We visited a local horse park for the Carnival day where we took part in face painting, horse riding and playing. The students were dressed in carnival costumes and they ate souvlaki.  We had a great time!

- Feast for March 25th,1821

Greece

What do we celebrate on March 25th – The great double holiday of the Greeks?

March 25th is a religious and national holiday.

15th kindergarten Patras Greece

Today, Hellenism everywhere honors its ancestors and celebrates the beginning of the 1821 revolution against the Turkish yoke.

At the same time, it honors the Orthodox faith, celebrating the anniversary of the announcement of the birth of Jesus.

The good news was conveyed to the Virgin Mary by the Archangel Gabriel, who told her that she was going to conceive Jesus, the son of God.

15th Kindergarten Patras Greece

15th Kindergarten Patras Greece

On March 25th, we celebrate the Revolution of 1821, which took place against the Turkish yoke after 400 years of slavery. In essence, we are referring to the armed uprising of the Greeks against the Ottomans with the aim of establishing an independent state.

We celebrate the independence of Greece and, as in the case of October 28, on March 25 we essentially celebrate the beginning and not the end of the revolution.

This day is an official holiday in Greece and Cyprus. Its double celebration makes it one of the most important dates of the year.

At our school we decorated our classrooms

and On Friday, March 21, the classes of our Kindergarten presented to each other the celebration they had prepared for the celebration of the Annunciation and the Revolution of 1821.

The children recited their poems, sang “Kleftopoula” and “Thourio tou Rigas”, danced traditional dances “Gerakina” and “Saranta Palikaria” and closed the celebration with the “National Anthem”.

The Easter at Grădinița cu Program Prelungit Mămăruța, Cluj Napoca

One other most beloved feast by children is Easter. Together we set up a corner in the group room where we decorated an Easter tree.

Easter
  • Over  several days the children participated in many interesting activities:
  • they drew Easter eggs
  • Easter
  • decorated Easter eggs and drew different lines to folow the path of the eggs
  • Easter
  • counted colored eggs
  • Easter
  • made easter baskets and baskets with colored eggs
  • Easter
  • dyed  eggs with crepe paper
  • Easter
  • had a lot of fun playing the Hot Egg game
  • Easter
  • and the most expected activity of the week was the egg hunt.
  • Easter

We talked about the custom of Lazarus and sang carols, and made little Lazarus dolls.

Since ancient times, buns and tsoureki, and dough in general, have symbolized the rebirth of life as the flour "comes to life", "takes shape and life" and transforms into bread.

We made Easter cookies.

The hare brought us colorful Easter eggs and told us what tradition says about the custom of red eggs!!!
